POLICE operatives have arrested four persons and seized a cache of firearms following an entrapment operation over the weekend in a sub-urban village in Surigao City, police reports said Monday.
The arrest of four persons and seizure of several firearms in the entrapment operation came a day before the government started implemented a total gun-ban for the coming mid-term election.
Reports at Camp Crame identified the four persons arrested in the entrapment operation as Allan Avelino; Archie Avelino and Ariel Avelinio, all from Surigao City and Richard Zambrano, of Claver, Surigao del Norte.
The four suspects were arrested last Saturday morning by elements of the Surigao City Police office following an entrapment operation at Brgy. Taft in Surigao City, police reports said.
The said entrapment operations were conducted jointly by elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and Regional Intelligence Division of the Surigao City Police Office.
Seized from the suspects were an AR 15/KG 9mm automatic rifle; a 9mm Beretta pistol; two 45 caliber Remington pistols; two Smith and Wesson Caliber 38 revolver; a Magnum 22 revolver and various types of ammunitions.
Caraga Police director, Chief Supt. Getulio Napeñas said the arrest of the suspects and seizure of firearms was part of the police’s intensified operations against loose firearms especially during the election period.
“The PNP is continously taking away instruments of violence like immobilizing activities of armed groups and criminal elements,” Napeñas said.
