A local environmental government employee and a motorcycle driver were killed in an ambush early Saturday in a remote village in Rosario, Agusan del Sur, police reported on Sunday.
Camp Crame reports identified the victims as Camillo Castones, 43 an Menro employee of Rosario and Joseph Camarillo 18, a motorcycle driver.
The reports said the incident occured at around 8:30am Saturday at Purok Guava in Brgy. Sta. Cruz, Rosario, Agusan del Sur.
Castones reportedly hired the services of Camarillo to bring him to his monitoring post at Purok Sto. Niño, Brgy Sta Cruz of said municipality, reports said.
The reports said the two reaches Purok Guava the suspects appeared from the roadside and shot them several times causing them to fall and slumped on the ground.
The suspects fled towards unknown direction after the incident while Castones died on the spot due to several gunshot wounds, the reports said.
The Camarillo on the other was rushed by policmen to D.O. Plaza Medical Hospital in Prosperidad town but was declared dead on arrival, reports said.
The reports said recovered from the crime scene were one blue Honda TMX Motorcycle, 12 fired cartridge cases and three fired bullets from a .45 pistols, other personal belongings of the victims.
The reports said motive for the ambush could be personal grudge as Castones was involved in mining activities in the hinterlands of said barangay.
Elements of the Rosario Police and personnel of 75th Infantry Battalion are conducting pursuit operations to identify and arrest the suspect or suspects.
