TINATAYANG P4.5 milyong halaga ng “ukay-ukay” ang nasabat ng Bureau of Customs (BoC) Sub-Port sa North Harbor, Manila International Container Port (MICP).
Ang nasabing kontrabando ay mula umano a Estados Unidos na iligal na ipinuslit sa bansa at idineklara bilang Fishing supplies ng kanyang shippers na Dev’s Commercial.
Nakalagay ito sa tatlong container van at naka-consignee sa Isidro Enterprises ng Iloilo City nang masabat ito noong Hulyo 19,2013 sa Manila North Harbor.
“Under R.A 4653, the importation of ‘ukay-ukay’(used clothing) is banned to protect the health of the Filipinos and to preserve the Filipino dignity. This is the reason why the BoC is vigilant against smuggled used clothing in our parts, if only to secure the Filipino consumers from the risk of catching contagious diseases from contaminated smuggled used clothing smuggled from abroad,” ayon kay Custom’s Commissioner Rufino Biazon.
