ONE soldier was killed and three others were wounded after government troops clashed with a group of New People’s Army (NPA) rebels Tuesday night in a remote village in Isabela, military reports said Wednesday.
Reports at Camp Aguinaldo, the military headquarters in Manila said the encounter between troops and rebels occurred Tuesday night in the vicinity of Brgy. Balagan in San Mariano, Isabela.
Soldiers from the 52nd Division Reconnaissance Company were on a security patrol in the said area when they chanced upon at least 29 NPA rebels triggering an hour-long firefight, the reports said.
The name of the soldier were not made available pending notification of his kin, while the wounded soldiers were brought first to a station hospital before being airlifted to V. Luna Medical Center in Quezon City.
The military official said that troops were able to recover from the encounter site two improvised explosive device (IED) and six back-packs with subversive documents with high intelligence value.
