A 73-year old depressed British national committed suicide by hanging himself inside their home late Thursday afternoon in a remote village in Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte, belated police reports said on Saturday.
Reports at the PNP national operations center in Camp Crame named the Briton that committed suicide as John William George Teahan, 73 and residing at Sitio Taguikon, Brgy. Binuangan of the said place.
The reports said that initial investigation by the police revealed that the Briton hanged himself with the use of an electrical cord inside their home late Thursday afternoon.
Prior to the suicide, Teahan reportedly sent his wife, Agnes Pinote, to the town proper to print-out from his email address his plane ticket as he is schedule to fly back home to London on September 10, the reports said.
The reports added that while at the town proper, Pinote tried to contact her husband, but Teahan reportedly not answering her call prompting her to seek the help of a neighbour, Belen Kilat, to check on her husband.
When Kilat verified, she was shocked to saw Teahan hanging on the stockroom, who then sought the help of other neighbours to rush the Briton to the Sindangan District Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival, the reports said.
The reports said Teahan was reportedly suffering from depression due to his ailment, which might have prompted him to commit suicide.
Sindangan Municipal Police Station is conducting thorough investigation to determine if there was foul play over the death of the British national, the reports said.
