ONE assistant supervisor of Trans Asia Petroleum has been declared dead-on-arrival by attending physician in Rizal Medical Center in Pasig City while his companion was hospitalized after the two were apparently trapped inside a bunker tank yesterday afternoon at Regent Food Corporation, 1688 Elizalde Street, Barangay Ibayo Tipas, Taguig City.
Police named the departed victim as one Sherwin Julao, 28, residing at 1515 Eusebio Street, Barangay San, Miguel Pasig City while the survivor was also identified as Peter M. Javier, 35, residing at 920 Favilia Street, Mandaluyong City, both working as supervisors of Trans Asia Petroleo, a sub-contractor supplying bunker fuel tank in Regent Food Corporation.
In a report received by Taguig Acting Chief-of-Police P/Supt. Annie Ochavo Bodanio, a certain Christopher Erwin V. Yap, Warehouse Head of Regent Food Corporation, emphasized to police investigators that the sub-con company regularly conducting quarterly cleaning activity in their bunker tank where Julao and Javier were tasked to do the said job.
Yap stated that Javier was the first person who entered inside the bunker where few minutes later Julao saw his companion collapsed so the latter allegedly took the courage of rescuing the former but unfortunately both of them were trapped and suffocated.
Yap stressed he ordered his underlings to look for Javier and Julao inside the bunker tank yet when they discovered the two were suffocated they immediately called the assistance of police led by PCI Dwight K. Ong then the Bureau of Fire and Protection and the Rescue Team of Taguig City who jointly performed the retrieval operation.
Both victims were reportedly rushed to Rizal Medical Center where Julao was declared dead-on-arrival.
Elements of Taguig Investigation and Detective Management Office are still conducting further investigation relevant to the incident.
