THE Western Visayas Regional Police Office on Wednesday warned the public to be on the lookout for the proliferation of counterfeit peso bill in the region with the arrest of two suspects in Bacolod City.
The warning issued by Regional Police Commander, Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr., came after elements of the Bacolod City Police Office recently arrested two suspects selling fake bills.
“Some of the fake bills could have been sold and being used by unscrupulous individuals… fake bills are usually used in busy market,” Cruz said in a statement Wednesday.
The regional police commander also enjoined the public in Western Visayas to immediately give information to the police should they know anybody or somebody that are selling or distributing fake peso bills.
“The public must be careful and also need to learn the characteristic of a genuine peso bill from counterfeit ones… in case of doubt, they should seek assistance from the police or any authorities,” Cruz said.
Recently arrested by the police fro selling counterfeit money in Bacolod City were Aurelio Duenas, 50 and Joseph Villaluna, both are married and are residents of Bacolod City.
The two were arrested after selling one fake P1, 000 bill and two fake P500 bills to a poseur buyer in Bacolod City. Also recovered from the suspects were P127, 000 worth of counterfeit bills.
