ON the eve of the celebration of New Year, some 500 kids from Quezon City will dance ‘Gangnam Style’ as part of the continuing annual ‘Iwas Paputok 2012’ campaign of child welfare group, Akap Bata Party-List. The event will be helt at Barangay Gulod Gymnasium, Quirino Highway, Novaliches, QC
The said campaign, which is also in line with the Aksyon Paputok Injury Reduction (APIR) campaign of the Department of Health against use of firecrackers in welcoming the new year.
Kids dancing ‘Gangnam Style’ will be holding placards and alternative noisemakers as whistles, ‘torotots,’ pots and pans, loud music among others.
The event will be made as numbers of cases of firecracker related injuries continue to rise this year. Based from the Health Department data, 197 cases were reported last year while 165 cases of firecracker injuries were reported as of December 29, considering that it’s not yet New Year’s Eve. Majority of these cases were children.
