A mentally-ill farmer was shot to death by two still unidentified gunmen early Tuesday in a remote village in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur, police reports said Wednesday.
Reports in Camp Crame identified the victim, who is suffering mental illness, as Anañas Agbones, 53 and resident of Sitio Sikahoy, Purok 3, Brgy. San Roque, Bislig City.
The reports said Agbones was being placed by village watchmen inside a containment area in the said village when the two gunmen appeared from nowhere.
The gunmen then shot the victim, being placed inside the containment area, several times in different parts of his body killing him on the spot, the reports said.
The reports said the two gunmen quickly fled, while the victim was rushed to the nearest hospital, but was declared dead by attending physicians.
Initial investigation conducted by responding element of Bislig City Police station revealed the victim incurred several grudges from the community for going wild whenever he is attacked by mental illness, the reports said.
The reports said the victim’s family requested village officials to assist them in constructing a make-shape confinement room to delimit the victim.
Responding policemen also recovered from the crime scene were five pieces of fired cartridges case of caliber .45 pistol, the reports said.
The reports said that Bislig City Police are investigating the said shooting to determine the motive and identities of the gunmen.
